The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Consider this a dare for partners in committed relationships who appreciate the horror genre: Sit down with your loved one and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its streaming debut on the Hulu service. On the surface, it may seem like typical physical horror, but within Together exists a profound meditation about our choices in loving one another.

A Debut Feature Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for a decade. Married in real life in 2017, the two stars bring a unique chemistry to their roles, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The narrative starts when Tim and Millie relocate from the metropolis to the rural area for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s largely where the cliches end. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists fall into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a strange force takes hold of the duo. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The whole movie is a gradually intensifying of scares, weaving in moments of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes amidst something horrific). Shanks weaves these elements together seamlessly and delivers them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A large part of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve moved to the country and distant from his network of friends. He fears the concept of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is intensified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie face the type of challenges that arise in any relationship over a long period. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, offer support, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the metaphor avoids being hamfisted or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal work together in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the film’s ultimate message about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that single viewers have seen the movie as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could act as a telling indicator of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale inspire anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you see yourself in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your significant other and state, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an experiment you can experience today.

Together is currently playing on Hulu at present.
